Lee Shifflett, Elder
I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. I started attending Calvary Road Baptist Church at the age of 4, after my Mom accepted Christ there in December of 1987.
Growing up in that church family, and getting involved in middle school with our youth group praise band, was such a blessing as it kept me involved and allowed me to be an active part of worship teams at a young age. I accepted Christ at a summer youth camp in June of 1996, and met Jessica, my future wife, in the youth group in 2000 (I would have to wait until June 9, 2007 to hear her say “I do.”). In April of 2006, we left Calvary Road to help plant Image Community Church. We moved to Culpeper in 2008 and for the next 7 years and we had the opportunity to watch that ministry grow in Dumfries, Virginia, making the 1 hour commute every Sunday morning.
We felt called to leave Image and find a local church at the end of 2012, and after searching for several months, God led us to Mountain View, in June of 2013.
Since being here, we have been so blessed to watch this family double and then some. I love being part of our amazing worship team, and in 2015, I was led to go with a team to the Amazon region in Colombia, Brazil, and Peru.
In 2016, I felt called to return to the Amazon for 30 days to help lead the construction of the La Milagrosa Medical Clinic with 3 amazing teams. Prior to leaving, the idea of eldership was placed before me by the Elders. I had an amazing and beautiful month of being almost completely unplugged to focus on service, be in His word, spend quiet time every morning next to the Amazon river, and just wait on Him.
Eldership is a position that I wouldn’t have volunteered myself for, but through prayer and seeking insight from Jess, Pastor Mark, and the rest of the Elder team, I welcome this blessed opportunity and pray for God’s wisdom and guidance.
