MVCC Staff Team
Mark Jenkins, Lead Pastor
I’m the husband of an incredible woman named Tara who said “yes” to me and ministry and that’s a double blessing. We have three girls: Megan, Kayla, and Morgan. I grew up with all boys and now God wants me to discover how the other half lives.
I am a sinner saved by God’s amazing grace. I was educated by a godly set of parents, Culpeper County Public Schools, Longwood College, and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Most importantly, I’ve been schooled in the classroom of life by a loving heavenly Father who knew I didn’t know anything despite the diplomas hanging on the wall, and yet chose me to be one of his children. Today I serve as a lead shepherd of one of Culpeper’s amazing local church families!

I grew up in central Pennsylvania and after high school I joined the Air Force. While serving in San Antonio TX, I met my wife Dana (also serving on active duty) and her son Matthew who was 2yrs old. Over time it became evident that Matthew had a mental illness and he was eventually diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia. That situation put incredible stress on a young marriage, but through our faith in God we struggled through and did all we could for Matthew. I would certainly nominate Dana for sainthood after putting up with both of us through some trying times. She is a very strong woman. Although there have been a lot of difficult times, there have also been many blessings. One thing we were sure of through it all, was that we were walking with the the Lord, and He was always with us. That faith trial has a lot to do with who Dana and I are now with 24+ years behind us.
While serving in the Air Force I completed my BS at Wayland Baptist University. I spent a lot of time playing in praise and worship bands, but it wasn’t until we moved to Virginia that God called me to lead worship. I had the opportunity to lead at a church for 7 years and also to participate in a Restoration ministry. Praise and worship to God is our natural response, as his children we receive blessings, as he pulls us out of our sins, and as we live through our trials. If God has given you talents and a desire to be a part of the Mountain View praise team, I encourage you to contact me.

Tara Jenkins, Children’s Ministry Director
I grew up in Connecticut and Mark and I like to say we married the north and the south. I call him my P.I. man (prayed in. ) I was fortunate to be raised by Christian parents and have two brothers. One of my greatest joys continues to be times when we can all be together. We can be loud, but we have a lot of fun and we laugh until we cry. I consider my mom to be one of my best friends, and I am blessed to have her guiding hand and mentoring in my life.
During my growing up years I stayed active through football and basketball cheerleading, diving team, gymnastics, snow skiing, water skiing and many other adventures. Once I even jumped off a 30 foot cliff into a lake in Maine!
Over the years God has opened up doors and allowed me the privilege of earning two masters degrees-one in Social Work (The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2003), the other in Education (Mary Baldwin, 2000.) Now as a pastors’ wife, and a homeschooling mom of three girls I use all that education and more!
Favorite Book: I am a “book-aholic.” I fell in love with reading in fourth grade, and couldn’t possibly name a favorite!
Favorite Color: navy blue
Quirky Behavior: When I chew mint gum, I most often sneeze three times!
Favorite Season: Definitely spring.
A Great Treat: A Broadway play
Favorite Vacation Spot: The beach at Duck, NC & Sebago Lake, Maine
Favorite Bible Verse: ”Not by might, not by power, but by my spirit says the Lord.” Zechariah 4:6
Simple Pleasures: A cup of coffee or hot tea, long walks with Mark & our dog, Levi, a good book, time with friends, any type of ethnic food-Mexican, Chinese, Italian, Thai…

Nancy Mattison, Administrative Support
My name is Nancy Jo Mattison. I am the youngest of 5 children. I grew up in a Christian home on a farm in a small rural town called Plummer in northern Minnesota (population 300, counting cats & dogs!) I married my high school sweetheart, Karl Mattison, in 1987! We have 2 amazing boys – Taylor (1994) and Levi (1996). We have a cabin on Smith Mountain Lake, which is a true blessing and source of wonderful family memories. I was a secretary for the U.S. Government for 7 years and then a stay at home Mom for 10 years! It was an answer to prayer the day Pastor Mark asked me if I wanted to become Mountain View’s first official secretary! I’ve been working here part-time since 2004. I have a heart for Grief Ministry as a result of several very close personal losses in my life. Mountain View has been such a blessing to our family. When they were young, my boys called it the “fun church.”
Family is extremely important to me! Despite having lived in Virginia since 1987, I still call Minnesota my home! I’m told my accent is a dead giveaway! Some things people probably wouldn’t know about me are: I grew up a little farm girl. I helped my parents on the farm by driving the John Deere tractor, crimping hay, picking rocks, etc. I played basketball in high school and was a football cheerleader. I was Valedictorian of my senior class (even though it was a very small class of only 19 students!), and I was the reigning “Miss Plummer” from 1984 – 1986!!
Favorite flavor of ice cream: Maple Nut (this is hard to find in Virginia)
Favorite book other than the Bible: The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks
Hobbies: spending time at the lake with my family…jet skiing, boating, fishing, and ATVing
Hometown: Plummer, Minnesota!
Favorite song: He Will Carry Me by Mark Schultz
Instruments that you play: flute (I’ve always wanted to learn to play guitar)
What you like to do on a sunny day: boat and jet ski at Smith Mountain Lake (Our hope is to retire there someday!)
What you like to do on a rainy day: snuggle in and take a nap

I was born, at the height of the second World War, into my family who belonged to the Lutheran Church. I was one of three children. My father taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and sang solos and played solos on his violin in church. He was also a school teacher. My mother was church organist for 60 years. She was also employed as a secretary. I was baptized as an infant and also confirmed as a young adult. I attended Sunday School and sang in the choir as a child and an adult.
From an early age it was obvious, to my father who was a music teacher and my mother who was an accomplished pianist and organist, that my gift was the gift of music. I was very briefly introduced to the piano and played the violin for a short time, but in third grade it was decided that I would play the cello. I took lessons, received a scholarship at one point and was granted the honor of playing in District and State orchestra in High School. But my passion was horses. I cherished those times on Saturday morning when, at dawns first light, I made that very long trip to the stables to go riding through the woods and fields in and adjacent to Wissahickon Park, on solitary trails in the early morning mist. My first marriage was blessed as it produced two sons, Douglas & Robert, but sadly ended. My second marriage was blessed as we had three sons, Edward, Adam & David, and one daughter, Wendy. Married for 37 years, my husband Ed passed away and has gone on to be with the Lord.
While I always believed in Jesus and attended church, I didn’t know Him. In 1971, GOD put it into my heart to seek the Lord with all my heart. And, in 1992, the Lord graciously received me into the family of GOD and I was born again. I never tire of talking about Jesus and of testifying to what He has done in my life. He is my Lord, my Savior, and the light of my life. He is my passion. And He has led me here to Culpeper, to Mountain View, where I have been received into a loving body of Christ.
I have the great privilege to work in the Mountain View Church Office, and am surrounded by people that walk in the love of Christ. Thank you Jesus!

Valerie Webb, Book Keeper/Communication
I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. Mike and I have been married for 18 wonderful years, this year. We have six children, four of which live in California, and two that live here. Mike and I have eight grandchildren and two on the way. Four of them are on this side of the country and I make sure I get lots of time with them! I never thought I’d enjoy being a grandma so much! : )
I’ve worked for many years of employment as an office manager for Dr. Lewis Armstrong and a bookkeeper in several other places. I’ve worked for MVCC since 2011 and thank God for the opportunities that He gives me to serve.
Most of my days are spent doing church work, taking care of my goats, chickens, and dogs, helping my daughters and parents out, working in my yard and home, and let’s not forget…….those grandkiddies! Yes!
God has been so gracious to my family. I grew up where God was always a part of our daily lives and my parents instilled a sense of love and commitment to Him. For that, I am extremely grateful. He has blessed our family in so many ways. My heart’s desire is to be the hands and feet of Christ to others. Unfortunately, I’m not one of those bold people that witnesses to every Tom, Dick, and Harry that they meet, but I try to do what I can with the gifts that God has given me, even going outside my comfort zone at times. If you’re one of those people too, I encourage you to take a step of faith, get involved in some kind of ministry that reaches out…….you’ll be glad you did!
