Our Mission & Vision

The Mission of the Church was defined by Jesus when He gave His Church  the Great Commission found in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 28.

Matthew 28:18-20 (NIV2011)
18  Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20  and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

At Mountain View, we seek to live out that mission  by “Turning indifference into amazement and seeking into discovery by touching our neighbors with the love of Jesus Christ.”  That’s our “mission” or purpose for existence.  We want to glorify God daily by living yielded lives that turn a people walking far from God from indifference into amazement.  It’s our conviction that amazed people become seekers and seekers ask questions.  Once the questions begins we’ll lead them to the answers they are looking for.

In the book of Acts, the power of God was displayed many times through ordinary people turning those who were adamantly opposed to Jesus, or didn’t care, into committed followers of Jesus. By the power of God’s Spirit working through us, we believe God will reveal Himself in ways that will turn the heads and the hearts of those indifferent to the Lord and cause them to ask questions. In order for this to occur, we have to be on mission with God at all times.  We call this the M.V.C.C way.

M-We Exist To Meet Real Needs Through Service and Evangelism

V—We Exist To Educate (Disciple) God’s People for Victorious Living

C—We Exist To Celebrate God’s Presence in Christ-Centered Worship

CWe Exist To Celebrate People in Contagious LIFE Groups

We have been called to join Him on a daily basis as missionaries in our workplace, our schools, and our homes.

We are seeking to live this out by becoming more effective daily at developing AUTHENTIC BIBLICAL COMMUNITY among diverse groups of people who will worship, grow, and serve God together as a family.  That’s the vision that compels the leaders of MVCC to lead as they do.

Our vision statement reads, “Mountain View Community Church is committed to building Authentic Biblical Community.”

With all the great activities and ministries we can be a part of in this world, our primary goal is to start, nurture, and multiply healthy small groups of people committed to fulfilling the mission of Jesus Christ. The people, in the context of the growing authenticity and intimacy of community, will learn how to worship the Lord both privately and publicly. They will become like the Lord Jesus through discipleship and spiritual growth, and serve together in God’s mission. The developing of these missional communities is the primary tool  through which we are joining God on His mission in the world.

It’s our desire to be defined, not by an hour of worship and celebration on a Sunday morning, but our intentional acts of worship expressed throughout the week in practical ways within our community. We are committed to working with churches across Culpeper to tear down the strongholds that are keeping people from experiencing the abundant and eternal life that God has for us all.
