For The Glory Of God Alone
Series Blurb: In 1517, 500 years ago this year, Martin Luther posted his “Ninety-five Theses” on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany, to denounce what he saw as abuses by the Catholic Church. He became known as the father of the Protestant Reformation. No one could expect the breadth of reforms in Christian teaching and practice that followed Luther’s bold move. In every dimension of Christian faith, a renewed trust in God’s forgiving mercy replaced a reliance on teachings and practices that were vulnerable to abuse and corruption.
For the next five weeks, we’re offering a series called “True North” where we will be looking at five core Christian beliefs. The Reformers called these beliefs the five solas. Sola is the Latin word for alone. These are the fundamentals of the Christian faith upon which all other teaching must be built. We are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone; for the glory of God alone, and the Bible alone has the unique authority to teach these things. As we continue to make Maximum Impact in 2017, let’s make sure we’re building our lives and plans on the fundamentals.
Week 1: Pastor Mark Jenkins, Speaking – “Soli Deo Gloria – For The Glory Of God Alone” – What do you hear when someone says to you, “This life is your shot at glory”? The statement is 100% true, but how we interpret its meaning can be 100% disastrous. We are called to give God glory and share in God’s glory because of Christ’s redemptive work. So whose glory are you seeking?
